Joe P. seems to be saying that I have no right to post to the list unless I post regularly (what's the required frequency of posting, Joe?), and also that I have no business having an opinion about the content or style of the list. Sorry Joe, I didn't get that memo.

I don't know whether it's derogatory to say that I find the list hard to understand because it's full of jargon and many-times quoted posts. In my view, those are simply facts, and facts that greatly discourage my regular participation in the list (and, I suspect, the same is true of many others who are never heard from at all). In order to keep current with the list, I'd have to spend about an hour per day on it, sorting out the grain from the chaff, keeping up with the current jargon, etc. I just don't consider this the best use of my time. And, of course, to the extent that the list concerns temperaments, it just isn't of interest to me. I've devised methods for navigating in the JI lattice in the course of my compositions that work satisfactorily for me, and I've never felt a need or desire to temper.

***It came with the temperament "white shirt" memo...

***Hi David...

My impression of your last post was that it was a kind of "snide"
swipe at the list since I *know* that *you* know that many people
here would be very interested in your Just Intonation series.

There are lots of Just Intonationists here: David Beardsley, Kraig
Grady until very recently (Kraig gets the "revolving door" prize
(Carl?) for coming and leaving the list in a huff at least 6 or 7
times in the 4 years I've been here...), Jon Szanto... yes, he's
still here despite complaints. Joe Monzo, knowledgable in many areas
of tuning, but a "JI Freak..."

I would even venture to say that Paul Erlich, A.K.A. the "Temperment
Prince" has the very basic ideas of his theories rooted in Just
Intonation, which is one of the fundamental principles of
his "Harmonic Entropy..."

And my humble self... using, yes, a Temperament "Blackjack" within 3
cents of JI and thinking (perhaps mistakenly, but still thinking)
that I am using a practical kind of JI...

If this were only a temperaments Tuning List, I probably wouldn't
find it interesting, either. I might as well go to some early music
meantone list or something.

Diversity is the key here and certainly I didn't mean to discourage
your posts (which come at least twice a year, regardless... :)

As a JI Network member in, hopefully still, good standing (I paid my
dues, but you could send the bills more regularly... :) I want to
think that this list is a JI-friendly place and not a "temperaments
list."

So, let's all relax, and PLEASE, David, continue to post your concert
announcements here...

It is *NOT* just a temperaments list!!!

best,

JP
