"The future of music may not lie entirely with music itself, but
rather in the way it makes itself a part with--in the way it
encourages and extends, rather than limits, the aspirations and
ideals of the people--the finer things that humanity does and dreams
of."
Charles Ives

I just wanted to make a point to mention that today is the 50th
anniversary of Charles Ives' passing. I've had a million influences
and musics impact my life in a positive way over the years, but no
one ever left a more indelible mark on my psyche than Ives... a truly
great man and one for the ages.

Jan Swafford is my favorite writer on Ives, and there's a nice bit
here for anyone who might be interested:

It seems to me that music is being used for the opposite at the present
time.

Extended Pythagorean tuning fits nicely with this description of what music
brings.

***As some of you probably know, the New York Philharmonic has been
doing a *huge* Ives festival this month. I've been getting in free,
since I know somebody who ushers... :)

The Ives Fourth Symphony was magnificent...
