I haven't tried this, but they claim it works...

their sales distribution, promotion and so forth, so if a person
didn't sign up for those services (I didn't, personally) I wonder if
they would be "recoverable..."

I got an email solicitation for the "recovery" and followed the link.
You did indeed need to sign up for the extra services in order to use
the recovery.
