Legally they would need to be removed if Joe requested it, but a
better plan might be to get them to become an approved mirror site,
and update on a regular basis.

i do hereby request that whoever is making these mirror
sites of older versions please REMOVE them.

my work on the old Dictionary and the new Encycloopaedia
is copyrighted, and i have NEVER authorized ANYONE to make
a mirror of any of it.

there is one and only one authorized copy of the
Encylopaedia of Tuning online, and that is at

http://tonalsoft.com

(the only other authorized version is at Sonic Arts, and
i'm in the process of redirecting those pages to Tonalsoft.)

You better investigate further, because I wouldn't be surprised if it is simply sites that catalog the web. I know there was one called the Wayback Machine, and there is a big archive (is it Alexis?) that I saw copies of Corporeal Meadows dating back to 1996.

IIRC, I checked the domain of the site that Paul put up, and it looked like the parent hosting company for ixpres.com, which I believe is where the Sonic Arts stuff is stored.

You should get a scheme where there are *no* web pages with any dictionary content on them at Sonic Arts, and have them simply (and only) redirect to your new site. Then sit and do some Googling and see if there are any other copies around the net.

Welcome to the world of free information, folks.

Cheers,
Jon

In case the person who mirrored this isn't on this list,
you might try writing them directly.

The Wayback Machine and services like it have the legal right
to mirror content, copyrighted or not.

The pages Paul linked to do appear to be related to ixpress,
monz's old provider.

thanks for shedding some light on what's going on.

i do intend to have all my old Sonic Arts tuning pages
redirect to the Tonalsoft site, eventually.

just to be clear: i will still have my personal webpages
at Sonic Arts. but all the tuning stuff goes to Tonalsoft.

***Hi MOnz!

So why is all the tuning stuff still over on your "personal" site?
They don't want to part with it?? :)

i'm the webmaster for both Sonic Arts and Tonalsoft.

it's just going to take time for me to write all the
redirect pages and upload them to Sonic Arts.

i'm still busy working on the software too ...
release time is coming up fast.

***Hi Monz...

Oh... so this is also your site.

I think somebody thought it was some kind of unauthorized *mirror*
site, but it turns out to also be *your* site.

That's kind of funny, I think, if you look at it a certain way...

Joe

So Monz was essentially admonishing *himself* for this site? That is
hilarious . . . but how about this one:

If the web server software used at Sonic Arts provides a "hook" for dynamic
cgi capabilities based on custom interpretation of the file path name, you
might be able to avoid generating thousands of redirect pages. Maybe too
late, but just a thought.

Or maybe it is as simple as having an error-based redirection of all the
failed references under a particular directory to a single-cgi page that is
able to query the url of the originally requested page (perhaps available as
the "referring page") and generating a full redirect url (to tonalsoft, at
the corresponding file path name) from the referring url.

In any case we all will appreciate that the old links are kept alive, so
thanks for your work in this regard.
