Why not stay at Yahoo?

Hey all,

What is the general argument for leaving Yahoo groups?

Is it simply that they sometimes screw-up formatting?
What is the 'gripes' list, in order of importance?

BTW, this message doesn't mean I'm anti-Tonalsoft hosting, but I am wary of
the move fragmenting and already small community. What we need is ever more
unity, and I think before such a decision is made, it should get a general
mandate.

Of course, Monz can do what he wants, start another list, etc.-but I know he
would want to do what's best for the community implicitly.

OTOH, I'm the type of person that would subscribe to as many lists of this
type in existence, to have a finger in every pie. But it would be annoying to
have to keep in touch with everyone over 2 or more lists...

Cheers,
Aaron.

For me:

1. Lacks advanced features.
2. Ads.
3. Poor reliability.
4. Web interface removes formatting.
5. Conditions of service may change at any time.

i agree, but somehow we managed to fragment into several lists anyway.

unfortunately, that's the way things already work around here.

I don't trust them. I would like everything backed up (no damned
asking permission) in a way which keeps things up to date.

***Well, mp3.com went "belly up" (I'm scrambling to get my mp3
content back!) so I guess that could certainly happen to Yahoo as
well... (mp3.com was *huge!*)
