Partch on NPR!

hello all,

tonight in the car on the way home from work,
i was listening on the radio to KPBS, my local
San Diego affiliate of NPR.

the announcer advertized a program that will be
aired Sunday at 7:00 pm, called "American Mavericks".

well, as soon as i heard that title, you can imagine
who i thought of right away ... our old friend Harry.
in my mind, those two words *immediately* conjure up
his cranky old bearded face.

but then of course, the very next thought in my head
was, "no way ... a radio station this big would never
play Partch".

well, guess what? yep. the announcer said,
"featuring Charles Ives, Aaron Copeland, Harry Partch,
and many others ...".

so is Partch really making the big time now?
or is San Diego radio merely being hip enough
to pay homage to a local hero?

... you be the judge. ;-)

***No... basically they're running out of material... :)

I'm not trying to be cruel. This "American Mavericks" is one of the
projects of Minnesota Public Radio in conjunction with the American
Composers Forum and such like. We've been discussing the website
related to this:

http://www.musicmavericks.org/

It just happens to be some of the best radio programming around, so
it's not suprising that the national affiliates of NPR are picking it
up...

And, Monz, you may not be a fan of Aaron Copland, but you most
certainly know how to spell his name... :)

One either pulls something like this off or one doesn't.
I remain undecided as a listener of this. So far the only
pull-off of anthem-like pentatonicism for me was done by
Yes, on their track The Gates of Delirium.

The tuning is cool though. What is it?
