***And it was a spectacular show, in an intimate surrounding where
one could hear every nuance of acoustic playing! It's late now after
the show, so more later...

Any more? I'm curious about the Al Giusto piece.

***It was excellent, and superbly played. It was extremely energetic
and made the most of glissandi and one of those blues slide finger
thingies (what do you call those again??)

Nice job...

A slide. Or a bottleneck slide if it's glass.

But Al was supposed to be playing fretless guitar!

It sez so on the press release:

***Hi David,

Well, I *thought* he was using a slide on a *fretless* guitar. Is
that very unusual? Maybe I'm just mixing up two pieces in my mind.
In any case, Al's piece was extremely energetic and well played and
had lots of glissandi and rapid strumming...

I'd think so. One has much more freedom with fingers
on a fretless fingerboard, than with a slide.

Cool. Hopefully I can hear this piece someday.
Thanks.

One thing a slide is good for, is....rather than describing,
I'll give an example.

If two strings are tuned, 1/1 and 3/2, it's easier to
play those fifths with a slide up the neck than with
your fingers.
