Hello ALL, the following will make some interesting reading. I am presenting this information without trying to draw any inference:

YEAR ......... # of postings
1996 ......... 02
1997 ......... 01
1998 ......... 59
1999 ......... 7418
2000 ......... 9552
2001 ......... 14977
2002 ......... 9389
2003 ......... 1121 so far.

Regards,
Haresh.

2 things to consider when viewing these statistics:

1)
the "big" tuning list (this one) has been around
since 1994. those few postings listed from 1996-98
are only the ones that made it into the Yahoo archive
when the list was moved from its older servers.

i assure you, there were several thousands of posts
the year i joined (1998).

2)
this list spawned several smaller, more tightly
focused lists in May 2001. certainly many of the
posts that have appeared on those lists would have
appeared here instead if this list hadn't splintered.

actually, the posts that are listed by yahoo as being from 1996 and
1997 are actually from later dates, but had the wrong date on them.

there are 50 or so posts that actually are from late december 1998,
which is when the list actually moved off the mills server.

yes, as well as 1997 and 1996 (on the mills server). some posts from
1994 are still available on the mills site, and robert walker has put
up webpages of all the posts from the mills list by those who have
given permission for him to put them up (myself, carl, graham,
manuel, and a few others).

***Yes, 2001 was the "Blackjack" year with attendant misgivings as to
the number of posts (14977) hence the split-offs...

monz!
what are the membership stats? I wonder if that wouldn't be more telling, as thinking and working in silence may be more appropriate to the thing, until a question--or discussion--is really pertinent? It's not like it's easy to tell yourself, "I want to be challenged beyond anything I 'reasonably' expected, before", but that's kind of what it is, 'reinventing the wheel', and all that nonsense...Who'd want to? But, if you wonder, I mean really WONDER, at what you can do, and what she can do, then you're home, aren't you?
