My defunct Sibelius

I just discovered that I can't open the Sibelius files that others are
making available on the list because I have an earlier version. I
complained to Sibelius and here's the reply : -

Yes we did think about backwards compatibility but I was informed by our
devellopers that it was just too difficult to implement due to the
number of new things in Sibelius 2 that just don't exist or have
adequate substitutes in Sibelius 1.x.
This doesn't just happen with Sibelius, as new things are implemented in
lots of software programs it is not always possible to have a 'save as
old version' option.

Too difficult! So that's it - cough up about $200 or remain obsolete. I
hope they go bust.

Best to All (except Sibelius)

***Hello Allison!

This is too bad, and I was unaware that we couldn't even save as an
earlier version, since I hadn't tried it!

After being on the Sibelius chat group for a while, I noticed that
the price for Sibelius is *considerably* higher in England than it is
in America!

I kept my mouth shut about this amongst my new English friends, but
it is true. The whole Sibelius package can be had for about $300
with an educational discount in America and I believe it's more like
$800 or some such in England, if I'm doing my pounds conversion
correctly.

I understand they want to make "inroads" into the American market,
one of the reasons they insist on spelling colour, "color" :) and
such like, but it seems unfair to the countrymen of the originators.

In fact, as I say, I was rather embarassed to mention the American
price on the English chat group...

best,

Joseph
