Speak for yourself, Joe. Chris, you have my support today. I'll
switch as soon as the new list is available.

Have you looked at the "500 people" lately?

Whatever happens will happen. One list will probably win -- and then
at least we had a choice. Or maybe there will be two lists, and if
so it will be for a reason.

I don't know the details of Chris' setup, but it's clear he's serious.
Joe, there's nothing special about yahoo's interface. Please take the
time to learn a little bit about this stuff.

**Hi Carl.

I'm not sure I know how I am expected to learn about something that,
apparently, hasn't been presented yet! :)

He asked us to express our opinions, and my opinion was that this
would be complex, considering the number of different interrelated
lists and the archive...

I was referring to internet discussion technology in
general, about which I have made numerous posts, and
which you, as a user of the technology, have a limited
responsibility to understand.

I don't want to put Chris on the spot, but I listed the
main pros/cons of leaving yahoo, and he said he and it
under control. That's a very generous offer, and I
suggest we let him set it up, and then we can all try it
before we decide if we want to abandon ship here. Do you
have an opinion on that?

***Hi Carl!

Well, if you're asking me if I've had any experience with these
technologies, I guess I would have to say yes.

I *like* the "threaded* idea, and it works *wonderfully* on the
Sibelius users site. However, I am *not* particularly enamored of
Usenet, since I feel the interface is "clunky" and people can't (at
least *I* can't) find things easily.

So I guess these systems vary a *lot* so I guess it depends what we
get from Columbia...

***Well, I was thinking about that, and I guess there would be no
harm in trying it. I suppose people will *migrate* over to it, just
like they have gone over to other lists from the "main" one.

So, sure, go ahead. But, I wouldn't be surprised if certain
discussions still continue over *here..* so, essentially, there will
be *two* main tuning lists, in addition to all the supplementary ones.

I guess that's not really a problem. Maybe people will like the new
one so much that they will just *stop* posting over here. I guess
it's possible. Then the "full" migration would be a success.

Certainly I wouldn't want to be in the position of stopping people
from trying things!

My opinion is that we should get out of this hell-hole while the getting is good.

Welllllll, I might have phrased it a little differently <g>, but I'm
100% with Gene here: set up a listserv with lots of file space??? How
could there be *anything* bad about that?!?

Do it now before Yahoo implodes. I'm willing to bet that the vast
majority of 'members' here are no longer interested or even
monitoring...

...and if they are, they'll see this and move to the new, stable home
of the list.

Cheers,
Jon

Well, Chris isn't proposing usenet. But I urge you to spend some
time with Google and/or Forte Free Agent before you decide that
usenet is clunky!

***allright, Carl! I admit, I'm getting more "comfortable" with the
Google Usenet interface now... I didn't like the left hand panel,
but I note I can move it over some to see the screen better.

OK... I suppose I won't particularly miss the ads and breasts on
Yahoo...

You can also leave "thread view" completely.

You mean you haven't got your own x10 camera yet? :)
