Thanks to a discussion on the tuning-math list,
I was inspired to finally put together a webpage
examining one of my favorites of Partch's _17 Lyrics
by Li-Po_, "The Intruder":

http://www.ixpres.com/interval/monzo/partch/intruder/intruder.htm

The page opens with an mp3 of Partch's performance
(many thanks to Jon Szanto!), and includes:

- the original Chinese poem,

- a literal English translation by Greg Whincup,

- the English translation of Shigeyoshi Obata used by Partch,

- my transcription of the score of the piece into a
12-EDO-based HEWM notation, and

- a lattice diagram of the pitches specified in the piece.

(and a map and some historical background too)

Enjoy!

love / peace / harmony ...

Monz... This is an incredibly interesting page. I'm assuming that
Jon Szanto is linking to this from Corporeal Meadows...

For me, it's *very* exciting to see the Li-Po songs transcribed by
Ted Mook in Ezra Sims' 72-tET notation!

I can actually *read* that notation now. I could play Partch
practically "right off..."

Now, *that's* performance practice, as far as *I* am
concerned!!!!!!!!!!!!
