encouraging news from England

I was thinking of submitting my piece in Blackjack for trombone and
electronics to a competition at the University of Leeds...

However, I wanted to know, first, if they were at *all* interested in
a microtonal piece.

I got an encouraging reply, however, which makes me think that at
least *some* people are quite interested in it:

Dear Joseph,

Your piece sounds ideal for submission. Playing it sounds harder
than mostpieces, of course, but it may be a genuine interest to the
British Trombone people as much as the Brass Bandsmen.

I'll look forward to seeing it,

Ph. W.

I wonder if there are any errors in your piece, like there were with
your latest chord progression . . .

a. Has Joseph *said* there were errors in the progression?

b. Kind of rude, don't ya think, to ask this publically instead of
privately?

Unless you are talking about notational errors, which really sets up
a weird scenario. I mean, c'mon, it's a _piece_of_music, not an
equation! If Joseph has listened to it repeatedly (which I assume he
has) and he has it standing as is, who's to argue? Or are we going to
have to come up with *more*
software/spreadsheets/hardware/algorhithms to 'listen' to a piece,
compare the digitized sound with the scanned score (or adjusted midi
file) and see if the aural and the notational match?

"Errors in your piece"... I'm gonna have to remember that one, Paul!

Cheers,
Jon

No.

Yes, sorry Joseph.

Hi Paul!

I hope not. If there are, please don't tell anybody! :)
(Not that anybody would care except for tuning junkies...)

I haven't had time yet to check out the progression I posted, but to
my knowledge it follows the keyboard tuning that I had set up on my
synth, and you played around with that yourself...

So, I'll check it again, but I believe it conforms to the keyboard
tuning and notation...

Of course, *that* could have been wrong...

I'll post more on this subsequently.

Joseph
