Don't Scala files start on C, by default?

I just knew someone was going to say that. :-) They start on their
tonic if they have one. The tonic just gets mapped to C (key and
pitch) by default. "By default" means "unless you do something to
change it". Can you tell folks how to do the right something? I'm
unfamiliar.

Thanks, I'll put it in the archive.

No, as Dave said, you can name 1/1 whatever you want. Here's the
scale in my pet notation:
0: 1/1 G
1: 83.333 cents G#\ Ab\
2: 116.667 cents G#/ Ab/
3: 200.000 cents A
4: 233.333 cents A}
5: 316.667 cents A#/ Bb/
6: 350.000 cents A#| Bd
7: 383.333 cents B\
8: 466.667 cents B}} C{
9: 500.000 cents C
10: 583.333 cents C#\ Db\
11: 616.667 cents C#/ Db/
12: 700.000 cents D
13: 733.333 cents D}
14: 816.667 cents D#/ Eb/
15: 850.000 cents D#| Ed
16: 933.333 cents E} F{{
17: 966.667 cents E}} F{
18: 1050.000 cents F| Gbd
19: 1083.333 cents F#\ Gb\
20: 1166.667 cents G{
21: 2/1 G

I'll upload the list of chords made with Scala, since
it's too large to post.

Thanks for picking that up Manuel. Yes all # are v and all b are ^.

So is the mapping to actual pitches and keyboard keys a function of
Midi Relay et al, and not Scala? I've never tried to do this. Must get
around to it one day.

Awesome.

When you list a tetrachord, it doesn't necessarily mean that theres a
matching one a fifth or fourth away, does it?

Will this include all the big Blackjack chords we found for Joseph?

Right, that depends on the program. In Scala, mappings and scales
are independent. The Scala keyboard mappings can also be used by
Fractal Tune Smithy for Midi relaying. They''re also independent
from notation.

No, they're listed strictly by scale degree.

If there's any big chord you made for Joseph missing, let me know.
I have 5 in my list.

Thanks, Dave!

I thought, though, I had to use the SCALA command "map C-linear" in
order for the scale to go sequentially throughout my keyboard.

I notice there is some subsequent discussion on this, and Manuel
provided another list, but I'm still unclear on whether I have to
use "map C-linear..."

Hi Manuel!

I'll ask this question again, just so I don't make a mistake if/when
I'm "born again" and "convert."

Don't I have to use "load map C-linear" if I want middle C to be
261.63Hz?? Or, can I just enter in the above, use the C-linear
mapping and everything will "just turn out OK??" :)

Thanks!

Joseph

Hello Manuel...

Thank you for posting the Blackjack chords, but, I must confess, I
find your notation system confusing. For starters, are you using the
C-G-D-A base? Has *that* been established as the "standard?"

I'm not even clear on *that* yet... I've still been using F,C,G.

This is sad, because I would love a compendium of possible Blackjack
chords, but the Blackjack field seems to be becoming more and more
obscure every day!
