Dear tuning list,

I'm a tuning list addict. I've admitted I have a problem, and I've asked for help, and I'm going on the wagon. I'd like your help too. If any of you see me on the list, ask me if I've attended to all my family and work responsibilities.

It has been one of the most exciting times of my life since Paul Erlich caught my attention some months back with Joseph Pehrson's question "What is the best 7-limit 19-tone subset of 72-tET", which led to the "MIRACLE" explosion which stimulated many other amazing discoveries (and yes some actual music). Such an amazing "learning exchange".

I feel a nice sense of closure now that the actual question has finally been answered, thanks to Rami Vitale's recent input.

I believe the best 19 note 7-limit subset (with some 9's and 11's too) is (drum roll please):

C C#v Db^ D Eb< Eb^ Ev E> F F#v Gb^ G G#v Ab^ A Bb< Bb^ Bv B> (C)

Thanks to everyone.

Bye,

(gasp!) This is not good! I can't add, I can't multiply, and I still
have an old wooden slide rule someplace.... This is not good...

Dear Latchezar,

This list is primarily about _microtonal_ tunings and music.
Even Mozart taught that C# was slightly lower than Db.
The 12-tone hegemony that has possessed Western music for 200 years
is precisely what we're trying to get away from here.
There is a vast body of musical and mathematical research behind Dave
Keenan's post.
You'd insult him, and all of us, with your simplistic dismissal.
Thankfully, you put smiley faces there.
So keep up the questioning, and the participation, it's good to have
you here!

-Paul

Mea culpa, Paul !

I know you are right!
But still I dont would to insult anyone here...
Why do you not see one joke first in my letter ?
And for me it's new that here is one microtonal
area...do you think really so ?
See please the adress on top...I know other sites
especialy for micro...music:)

Ok , Paul-I would to exuse me if you interpret so my
position... But never I will accept your definition
"simplistic dismissal" because it is too easy to say
like...to say is even more easy that to prove
anything...no? ;)
