Hmmm.... I was snooping around in Google and found
this:

http://www.mills.edu/LIFE/CCM/ftp/tuning/list/archive/jun946

Looks like the old Mills posts *are* still archived at Mills!
The URL has been changed.

Yes. You have to look around in different directories, and I can't
tell whether it is complete or not. This is where I found the
information for Dave K. the other day.

The best part? Same old arguements, same old people. In addition to
whatever tuning information you could want there, it also documents
the human condition, in all it's folly...

Cheers,
Jon

Well this is great, but it looks like only *one* year, 1994, correct??

The Mills server went on about 6 years, didn't it??

Looking at just a couple of the digests (#237-239) shows that they
span no more than about a one day period (which makes sense, as that
is usually how digests go out). Sometimes there are more than one
digest per day, but most of the activity was certainly less back then.

That said, #237 occurs in Nov. of 1994, and if there was just one
digest per day (i.e. slow numbers of postings) that would mean it
would only stretch back the better part of a year. I myself didn't
join until 95 or 96, but it doesn't appear that it went back *too*
far before 94, and just when did it first move to eGroups?

6 years sounds high, but I could be wrong...

Cheers,
Jon

if you look at the earliest month archived there:

http://www.mills.edu/LIFE/CCM/ftp/tuning/list/archive/feb941

it looks like the very beginning of the list-

The tuning list moved to eGroups January 1, 1999.

Assuming that the list came into existence some time in
early 1994, that would be just short of 5 years at Mills,
about 1 & 1/2 years at eGroups, and about a year now
at Yahoo.

I guess it is pretty well figured out now, since Dante pointed out
that the first msgs (you can guess that from the content) look to
have appeared in Feb 94. I just thought that the move to eGroups was
earlier than that.

I was 1/1/99 to eGroups.

Maybe you're thinking about *my* original move to San Diego? ;-)
(9/25/98). ...just kidding...

Don't forget Onelist! (your own webpage mentions onelist).

Oops!... my bad! You're right, Paul, I forgot all about
Onelist. (and I really do need to update *all* the tuning
list links on my pages...)

So after the ~5 years at Mills, the list migrated first
to Onelist on 1/1/99, then at some later point Onelist
became eGroups, then eGroups was bought out by Yahoo.

The only time it was ever actually moved was when it left Mills.
The Onelist-->eGroups-->Yahoo bit was just corporate mergers.
