"Lattice" by Carter Scholz

I've been listening to this piece and what a wonderful piece of music
it is. Proves, to my mind, that lattices can be immediately useful
for composition, even if I would have constructed the lattices
slightly differently. Here's a review:

This is fascinating... Actually it reminds me in some way of Jeff
Harrington's work... but then I'm only listening to the short sound
clip!

I'm assuming, Paul, that you're listening to the entire piece on the
CD.. :)

I'm finding at the moment, in Blackjack, that some of the *most*
interesting harmonies can result from travelling around the lattice
with common tones...

Wow, how weird... I haven't seen Carter's name mentioned
here in probably two years, and I just emailed him for the
first time today, having been put in touch thru John Chalmers.

John showed me JI Calc on his Mac and I thought I should
be in contact with Carter because it's essentially the
same as the main part of my own JustMusic software. We
arrived at the same thing independently, he a little before
me, but I have not yet been able to try out JI Calc
(due to "lack of mac").

Carter and I just today had our first exchange of mail,
and so it was really bizarre for me to see all this praise
just now from Paul about Carter's work.

Paul, I agree with you "Lattice" by Carter Scholz is a lovely piece. I play
an excerpt as a simple example of tuning in 17-limit every time I do my
introductory lectures on JI. Thanks for this link. The Conservatorium
library is now ordering his new CD. Can you confirm whether Carter is one
of the authors of the MIDI Tuning Standard ?

Nothing to do with 768 ET. Everything with 196608 ET.
