"midipu" & outdated link to Tuning Bibliography

Joe,

Thanks, I will try to have the Yahoo link replaced.

I find your "midipu" definition misleading since there is no
requirement in the MIDI specification for this unit to actually
represent an interval of 1/49152 octave. Because the actual
value depends on the pitch bend range. Moreover there is no
standard way to set the pitch bend range. There's only a
(I think non-mandatory) assumption that the range is from
minus to plus one 12-tET whole tone when the instrument is
switched on or reset.
Why don't we use the MIDI Tuning Standard unit of 1/199608
octave, which is a real standard? We can simply call it
"MTS unit" or some such.

This is out of date. The General MIDI standard defined the default range
as +/- 2 semitones, and standardised a way of changing it.

Why not millioctaves? Keep the numbers simple.

I've also used the word "millicent" before, which is a very small
interval, and must count as a real name.

Do you mean 196608?

Yup, thanks. So a monzisma is ~47.906 MTS units.

Thanks, Manuel. I should have stated myself that this
pitch-bend range is only one among several that are available.
It's simply that this is the range I always use, because
it gives me the greatest pitch accuracy in Cakewalk.

Hmmm... I never knew about that standard. Tell me more.

I you read http://www.midi.org/about-midi/tuning.htm you probably
say aha. Unfortunately it is ignored by the majority of manufacturers.
It's supported by Scala of course.
