Tuners interested in the development of new instruments might like to read an
article just published, "Shantivanam 2 : interactive performance using an
audio
signal processor" by Greg Schiemer, Narayan Mani and Siri Rama. This describes
development of two interactive algorithms which led to a performance in which
an audio signal processor is used to modify the sound of a veena player
accompanying Indian dance. Read it on

Just to save time, Greg probably won't mind if I mention that these
articles are in "Micropolyphonie 5." Then you won't have to "hunt
around" for it...

Thanks Joe, I've clearly got more problems than the last email. I was
trying to say that Mikropolyphonie also contains an article by Warren Burt
entitled "The Spectacle and Computer Music: A Critical Assessment". Warren
was on this list some time back and recently gave one of the most
entertaining presentations at MicroFest. His jokes were a riot but the
humour just wouldn't work in print! ..... now a test to see if the URL goes
funny again ....

Oh, I don't know about that, Greg. I'll reproduce one of his
funniest remarks here, and I'd bet that many will get a chuckle:

Now *that's* a memorable bit of historical tuning theory!
Can't wait to see it end up in a book some day.

And Jacky, I *loved* your "Numerologist" song!!!!
I agree with Mary - you *should* set it to music!
Imagine... *intentionally* microtonal Broadway!

(Notice I emphasized *intentionally*... much Broadway music
already *is* microtonal, but that's because it's sung by
actors and not "real musicians". Sounds good to me, anyway...)
