Historically "Bengal Lights" were pyrotechnic compositions without
sulfur or other materials that produced irritating or toxic smokes. They
were used to generate bright colored light for stage plays, etc. before
"lime lights" and electric lights with tungsten filaments were
available. Formulas may be found in old books on pyrotechnics.

Thanks, John...

I'm surprised I'd never heard of these before! They must be from an
earlier age in the West... and the Russians and Greeks are,
apparently, still using them...

Thanks!
