I doubt that maintaining ANYthing "in the
onslaught of the world-wide adoption of modern Western
culture." is off topic for the members of this list!

Thanks a lot for the Schenberg info. I'm a big
Verlachte Nachte fan, but found some of his other
compositions overly dry (I preferred Berg and
Webern of the big three from that school). You've
given me some good tips on where in his ouvre I may
want to probe.

Good point, Bob. In response to this, I've already started
writing a post on Chou and his work, but it's still growing
and so I'll have to send it later.

(So "stay tuned". <groan>)

This man's personality and ideas made a very deep impression
on me. I regret that I didn't know about him while I lived on
the east coast.

I can't wait until John deLaubenfels's adaptive JI software
is powerful enough to process my full-orchestra MIDI-file of
_Erwartung_ (which is nowhere near finished yet anyway).

Now *that* will be something to hear!!

Joe,

Since you've posted about the UCSD Music dept in the last couple of
days, let's make sure either you or I see if the UnionTribune puts
todays big article about the music dept somewhere online. That way
others could see what all the excitement (for you) is all about.

And for what it's worth, the article is quite good, and so is the
dept...

Cheers,
Jon

I got it, Jon:

http://www.signonsandiego.com/news/uniontrib/sun/arts/news_mz1a22ucsd1
.html

(paste the whole link into an editor first and remove the
break, the copy and paste it into your browser)

It mentions a lot of the gang I hang out with when I'm there.
I wasn't aware that so much more was going to be happening
in the near future. Sounds good.

Too bad the paper didn't actually cover the conference (which
was offically called "Event III"... how imaginative...);
I think it merited a real article (as opposed to my brief
comments).

PS - Looking forward to seeing you, and thanks for offering
the CD!
