Hi Jon,

Yes, I feel that too.

Masking the e-mail addresses is easy,
and should be done as a precaution anyway.
The Yahoo ones are already masked as I
am using the ftp versions of them.

HOwever, I don't feel it is a thing to
be "published", really just something
for members of the TL to browse as they
do the TL archive. I.e. for members use
only, as an off-line version of the archive.

As you say, some of it is off- the cuff type
remarks never meant for publication, conversations
about this and that etc.

If anyone did a Cd of it, then I think it should be
just for the TL, and I think it should be
at cost only (or I wonder if Yahoo themselves
would be interested in doing it??).

A kind of gold-mine for information that one
can find things in, purposefully or by
serendipity.

I'm particularly interested in making it available
for finding FAQ entries, and for finding FAQ questions
for that matter - things that often come up.
Idea is it would be a useful resource for the FAQ.
The FAQ then is the thing that actually gets "published"
in as much as making it a web site is a kind of
publication.

I'd place the archive zip in the Files area of the
TL, but it would completely fill it, in fact, i don't
think there would be enough room for it there,
even with no other files.

I'm not sure the ncbi site is the best place
for it, and may see if I can find somewhere
else.

Thanks for saying this, and I think it does
need thought, hope more will speak up about
what they think!

At anyrate, at least we do have (nearly) all the posts,
which is nice to know.

It would be possible to combine the two lists,
and using negative numbers would indeed
be one easy way to do the programming.

1000 posts gives 10 pages each of 100 entries,
which is just about at the limit of easy
html navigation I think.

So when one gets to many more than that,
it seems that one needs another level, and
the Yahoo groups archive is going to be organised
in 21 sections of 1000 posts each; seems to work
quite well so far.

Robert

Fine, I must have mis-interpreted. Still somewhat of an issue, but
anyway...

True.

Just my coupla pennies...

Question: does the Yahoo archive completely incorporate the eGroups
messages?

...and the rest. Boy, Robert, you really have a programmer's head
(and don't *anyone* take that for anything but a truly meant
compliment). Takes me back to the days of slinging code...

Best,
Jon

Hi Robert!

A searchable CD of the Yahoo/Mills combined archive would be an
incredible tool. I do hope at some point one could be somehow
available at cost! I can't wait to get mine!!!

Thanks again!
