I think Jacky's joke is not so funny.
I think we have the rights to call a scale our own.
When you refer to a werckmiester or another type
do you not use the fellas name?
What is such a joke about now considering this a Ligon scale?

Or are we waiting for someone with "academic authority" to substantiate our
claims or innovation?
I guess i am taking exception to what seems to be yet again a sort of
academic gauntlet apparent on this list at times
that Only dead guys can actually have done anything of any historical
significance.

Even Partch refers to the scale of Archytas~ who apparently was a real human
being, No?
I have no problem calling this a Ligon non octave scale until proof would
substantiate otherwise.

Thanks for this Pat. I wouldn't care to charge for it though, as I'm
richly rewarded when someone composes new music with my scales
(Mary?). This is the payoff for me.

Very interesting that you use the word "gauntlet", as this is exactly
what I have refered to it as.

Thanks, but let's not call it "Ligon-tuned". That would be a bit much
for my humble outlook.

How about "Nature-Tuned",

or conversely "Freak of Nature-Tuned"? ; )

Thanks again Pat - I'm with you - the living is *now*. I see many
here who speak in the contemporary tuning languages of our time - you
and David at the top of the list. This is what I'm most interested in.

I'm glad to see folks going beyond the 5-7 conservative boundaries.

More 17! More 23! More Peace, Bliss and Sharing like we've been
having here lately! The Beautiful Ones have finally arrived!

Loving it,

Jacky Ligon

OK Jacky, I'll take the hint. You prodded me out of my shell and I
finished "registering my email address" with Yahoo so I can post.

Everyone I love Jackie's scales especially his prime series and his
fractal phi. I agree he definitely has a special talent in this
area. And I've used them in some works where I've been proud to give
him credit. You can listen to them here

http://www.elucida.com/Universal_Mind3.html

I really like the Fractal Phi scale, its so easy to work with - all
the proportions are there ( I'm sure others on this list could give a
much better mathematical explanation of the phenomena). I know
Jackie likes Pluripotent which uses his prime1 scale - its a more
spacious, less familiar sound.

Now that I've jumped through the paperwork hurdles I hope to
participate a little more.

We should get plaster busts of our head and shoulder area
produced for people to set on top of their re-tuned pianos.
And should maybe consider having our faces carved into
the side of a mountain.

I guess the "bottom line" is whether scales ARE actually
copyrightable as "intellectual property." I believe they are not at
present. Perhaps the law should be changed?? Anyway, I didn't
research into this to verify... did anybody else??

J!
Neither you or me might not be able to copyright our scream but James Brown can and has and it
has held up in court. Imagine a scale with particular properties that when used cannot be
divorced from it source. In such a case, i believe a case for copyrighting a scale can be made.
Especially now when scales no longer have to have universal applications, one could develop pitch
material produces something as strong as James Brown scream.
