dead and alive

I thought I might like to give a reference to the DOM performances in
Moscow that, hopefully, I will be doing next week:

http://www.dom.com.ru/program/mar2001/month_eng.html

That page is in English, just in case your Russian is not quite up to
it!! :)

As you will see, the concert is called DEAD AND ALIVE:
Electroacoustic and acoustic music -between minimalism and
microtonality Joseph PEHRSON (USA)

My Russian host explained to me what "Dead and Alive" meant. It's a
little "ironic" joke among composer circles in Russia, "dead" meaning
"electronic music..."

Apparently, during the Soviet Union electronic music was branded
"decadent" and "intellectual" and, they wished it "dead," hence the
ironic expression that they retain...

Hi Jay! Thanks so much. I'm hoping to post to the list from over
there, but we'll see what my "access" is like...

Hopefully everything will go according to plan... there are three
concerts (one full concert, and a couple of others with a couple
pieces on) and about three "lectures" as well... Of course I will be
discussing microtonality!

I believe Hanssen has a Scandinavian spelling but, yes... big
headlines in these parts, anyway...
