Grammys seemed dull this year

Well, I managed to get some music copying done while watching the
Grammys this year... but they seemed pretty dull on the overall.

I guess a high point for me was the appearance of Chic Corea playing
with a rocker, whose name I should probably know, but I wasn't paying
enough attention. Corea seemed a little "hemmed in" by having to
stick to about three basic chords.

Violinist Joshua Bell was there, for whatever reason, and looked
nervous and uncomfortable as hell giving a Country Music award...

Ah... the joys...

I turned on the Grammies for a minute, and there he was. Who was he
playing with, Dave Grohl? Yeah, it sure took him out of his element,
I couldn't help but feel uncomfortable for him . . .

Yes, it was David Grohl and the Foo Fighters, and I'd commend them, for putting up up with his little winkly tonal sputterings, and being pleased with his meager display of polytonal chops, when he deigned to admit that the music might have been cooking, despite their apparent lack of sophistication, and his known identification with L. Ron Hubbard...

D-C-G-Em? There's a lot you can do with that, if you try...

Don't get me wrong, I'm a rocker through and through, I've been
playing with a jazz group for 4 years and it's very much against my
grain! I felt uncomfortable for Chick, mainly because I could imagine
the audience wishing he would just go away, and I could imagine him
imagining that too!!

***I thought that Grohl presented a very nice profile... it was
just a mismatch with Corea, who seemed "hemmed in" by the limited
chord changes. It just didn't seem to mesh with Corea's style, and
all he could do was "tinkle..."

But even more embarassing and awkward was violinist Joshua Bell
presenting the Country Music award. He seemed nervous and out of
place, and, of course, received little applause when he took the
stage, most people there probably not knowing who he was...
