No more "Sonic Foundry"

That company, which manufactured "Sound Forge" which I use quite a
bit, has been sold to Sony.

They have an upgrade offer now for Sound Forge 7 which is $100 for
the $300 product... from *any* previous version of Sound Forge (see
their website -- get there from www.sonicfoundry.com: it redirects
to Sony)

I never had the *complete* version before, so now I'm looking forward
to it...

It was a weird company.

I got the letter this morning. Talk about your money-grubbing
upgrades. I think Adobe are doing the same thing with
Cool Edit. They just did SF6, which wasn't that big an upgrade
over 5 (5 was pretty big). Slap in some presets, a free
plugin or two...

...but wait, the download's 50% bigger... ooh, there *must*
but something of value in there...

I only saw $150 from any previous version (and I think the
full version is quite a bit more than $300). Anyway, I just
paid $$$ for the 6 upgrade two months ago. So $150 for me
seems a bit high.

And I still don't think it's that good. I've owned full
versions since version 2 or 3, but I always wind up using
Cool Edit. But now that Adobe have got their claws on it,
I'm expecting it to be bloated and ruined within the year.
Complete with "sampler-mover tool"...

But I digress. I'm sick of paying for this monstrosity.
I bittorrented it. Screw the glubbermint. Yeah! Screw 'em!

***Well, you're a bit missing the point on this one, Carl... I only
had the XP version, with a $100 (or less) value, and the *full*
software was around $300.

So, now I can upgrade to the *full* version for $100...

For *recording* I prefer it over Cool Edit, although Cool Edit does
have some "special effects" that I've liked to use..

I think the full version's aronud $600.

Are you sure it isn't $150? Even so, definitely a good deal for
SoundForge XP users.
