Um, Joe, they are one of the most well-known groups in the last few years. Are you really just hearing about them for the first time, or just the first time you are hearing them?

Cheers,
Jon

P.S. Any chance you know Dan Schrier? He is a composer, based in New York, who - as far as I am aware - works primarily in theatre. I just did a session today with him here in San Diego for an upcoming Globe Theatre production of Julius Caesar. Very good writer, nice guy, very much in tune with all aspects of music these days: composing, recording, computer music preparation (he played demos and source tracks for me on his Apple laptop as we looked through my collection looking for just the 'right' found metal sound sources. Anyhow, good guy and thought maybe you'd bumped into each other...

I know who they are, but I'm not familiar with the music.

That's what's great about a good distorted guitar tone (and maybe
any great guitar tone) is the harmonic series. I remember
one tone I had sounded like a 4:5:6 chord, every note, all
from one note.

***That's pretty funny, Jon. Well, regrettably, I'm living in a
little cave here, and neither heard *of* or *heard* them until fairly
recently! They're good!

***Actually, no, Jon, but I'm not so "hooked into" the theatre
scene. That worked well for the Pulse Ensemble Theatre, since they
were able to get a very good "rate* for their Tempest music due to my
inexperience.... :)

***Yes, David! That distortion is expressive and powerful!
You do some of this kind of work yourself!

Check out the videos online:

The Linkin Park tunes I mostly like which use some of these
techniques are:

_Somewhere I Belong_ and _Crawling_...

Believe me, there's *lots* out there I really don't care for, but
these tunes are really something...

Sure do. I've into using a compressor to tweak my tone for a while
now. I haven't even plugged in a distortion pedal in weeks.
But that will all change this evening {insert evil grin, manic laugh here]

Their Java popup doesn't like my Mozilla browser, they this it's
a version of Netsscape (which it is, in a way) and also
makes my Internet Exporer crash.

I'll keep an eye on MTV2 for videos.

***Actually, I've had some crashes as well. I wish they'd get rid of
some of the ancillary Java stuff. It really messes things up. I
find, though, that it's sporadic... sometimes they have stuff on
there that freezes everything up, and then other times everything is
OK... Maybe they just fixed something, since right now everything
seems "cool" and I was freezing up the last week as well.

Oh, and the *best* Linkin Park video is _In the End_... Truly
incredible, especially the visuals. Pretty amazing stuff.
