Dear author(s)
this concern the comment made about Bela Bartok as found in
http://graphics.theonion.com/pics_3913/history_3913.pdf

I can not think of a composer who wrote more against the military than
Bela Bartok yet your article associates him with some type of military
weapon. this is as misguided as what the Nazi wrote aboiut him which
forced his exile from his homeland. obviously the author has never heard
much of the music Bartok (and Kodaly) collected , an act that would have
left us with most of it being lost. If the author did he would recognize
that his compositions were no more harsh than the original. I can only
assume that the author has some form of weak ears incapable of
withstanding any music outside their own ethnocentric background. It is
unfortunate that they did not live in Russia in the 30's where Stalin
could have enjoyed reading such garbage

no, I was glad to see it to set the record straight or al least compensatory to their
own. . it is weird that thus piece is so misunderstood. between this persons concept of
it as well as its use in
"the shining" were it didn't work at all.
The first time i heard the first movement it was one of the rare occasions in which i had
an "extra' musical experience. when they reach that Eb in the middle it is like seeing the
face of a supernatural force.

***Interestingly enough, I had a very similar experience upon first
hearing this piece....

Talk about further synchronicity, tonight i caught Musikas and the Takacs
string quartet as i noticed at the last minute they were playing. . the two
group alternated between Musikas playing traditional hungarian music (they
are the best) and Takacs played movements of the 4th quartet, his most
"abstract". The segway was much smoother than you would think and it was
great to hear this music no in your normal context. I have always wanted to
at least throw some dirt on the ground and give en some old chairs to play
this stuff. It is folk music and the the more folk put into to it the better
it sounds.
