I got a job! My wife Marilyn and I will be leaving for Socorro New
Mexico this summer. I will be starting a tenure track position in the
department of mathematics at New Mexico Institute of Mining and
Technology. It is a cool school and a great little town of 9000
people. If you are passing through, look us up.

Congratulations John! New Mexico (and indeed the whole four corners area) is
a truely magical place. Desert and mountains both never too far away. I
remember some ace hot springs in the Jemez mountains, and being picked up
hitchhiking by a French model named Marie-Eve in Espanola! The dark & dry
skies out there are totally amazing for star gazing, and Anasazi ruins are
always awesome places to visit too. A night I spent alone in a remote kiva @
Hovenweep was unforgettable.

Watch out for the allies roaming the remote desert! I had a friend who had
gotten a job restoring remote ruins. He was there alone for several days,
and one night while in his tent he heard something crashing and lumbering
through his camp. The next morning he found some large animal tracks and
followed them out into the desert where, in the middle of a completely clear
area, they suddenly stopped and disappeared inexplicably. He got in his
truck and got the hell out of there and never went back!

Thanks, Joseph, and thank you all for the good wishes.

By the way, I have brought another one over to the dark side. I was
showing the kid down the street how to safely remove the frets from
his guitar, and showed him a 19tet acoustic I had lying around. He
played it for about 1/2 hour, and decided that he wanted to refret his
axe to 19.

I am looking forward to it. The clear air, the bright stars, all the
things I miss in Denver are there in abundance. As for the aliens, I
welcome an encounter. I bet they know some cool math that no Earthoids
have thought of.
