I love Feldman's harmony, and have often tried to emulate it, or its rich
sound, at least.

for example:

However, I think it's a kind of harmony which really makes the most of
12tet in a "xenharmonic" way. I've tried re-tuning it, and it just
doesn't seem that different or exciting. Maybe my ears aren't sensitive
enough yet, I don't know. But my current sense is that it's basically
made for 12tet. It has a kind of "crunch" all its own, analogous to the
JI ":crunch" one gets, but achieved in 12tet.

That's intriguing. I've always loved the stasis of MF's harmonic
worlds, and often thought how wonderful some of those pieces (Rothko
Chapel, For Frank O'Hara, etc.) would be in a different intonational
space. Maybe they need to be exactly where they are...

Looking forward to your piece that I'm downloading now!

Cheers,
Jon

maybe christopher didn't try a john delaubenfels type adaptive
retuning.

how very beautiful, christopher! this sounds like it would be
exceptionally well-suited to a john delaubenfels adaptive tuning
treatment, run in 19-limit otonal mode . . .

Jon and Chris!
Would never suggest changing the actual pieces- best left alone-more a
comment as a possible source of branching out. I love the harmony and hate
it at the same time but will say he does more with 12 ET than others do with
any note they wish. Sun Ra is another who pulled some great stuff out of ET

Bad typing on my part - the thought that was in my head would be "how
would a piece in a similar vein sound in something other than 12tet".
I wouldn't ever take one music, or one person's music, and transfer
it elsewhere.

Just wondering how much cool music could be made with those clouds of
voices, a tube, some bells, etc...

Cheers,
Jon
