I've found the medium of pencil and paper very useful. The format of staves
and measures is also quite good.

Hi George,

I appreciate your input but please let me clarify. I'm talking about
composing and experimenting with JI on a computer. When all else
fails, I agree, pencil and paper, staves and measures are it.
