I don't think there's anything wrong with tweeking a pre-set.
Sonic Bloom started life as a Grand Piano sample. One day I
was doing some mundane task like washing dishes or tying
my shoe laces and the thought of a bowed piano popped into my
head. Starting with a pre-set was the best way to go about it.
Is it obvious it started life as a piano?

How "original" is original? Is a sound original if somebody "tweaks"
a preset in on direction or another, or do people consider sounds
original only if they are build up from scratch... let's say from
some kind of "vanilla" setting?

I was wondering, since I have heard that many sound designers start
with "already made" sounds and work them from there, rather than
starting from "scratch..."

Absolutely not... there is no relationship to it... so your point is
well taken...

I think a hard core programer with a lot of pride
might have a problem with it but...screw 'em.

I had just heard that "real" sound programmers at synth companies,
etc... took various "presets" or established sounds rather than
starting from scratch. I assume if they're under time pressure to
develop a product this is probably true.... ??
