I've been listening to him a lot lately. I have disc 1
of the Village Vanguard box on right now.

There's been a lot of rumors of his passing
on the net the past two weeks, but he's still with us
and recovering from a long stay in the hospital.

I realize Elvin may not be microtonal, but what a force in music! Just last night (well, just a few hours ago) I was with a friend who saw E recently and his wife was actually helping hold him up while he played. We may be in the last days of Elvin on the planet (hope not), so dig him (live) while you can.

One of the absolute natural elements.

Cheers,
Jon

On that note, I've been listening to the Ives violin sonatas, which I
hadn't heard before. Classic Ives and highly recommedable, at least if
you like Ives in full hymn tune mode.

***I didn't know them either... and they are about the only
significant pieces by Ives that I haven't known. I saw the
recommendation in the New York Times (huge article on Ives
recordings) and just ordered the CDs from Amazon...
