why is it better to be practical??

Some people are theorists, some composers....

Why is it *better* to be one than the *other.*

I'm getting tired of people "terrorizing" other people who don't have
their same priorities.

If this continues, I will quit every list where I see it occuring...

Joe,

Can't keep up, you're posting on different lists about the same thing.

{you wrote...}

Who said it was?

>I'm getting tired of people "terrorizing" other people who don't have >their same priorities.

Is voicing an opinion terrorizing? Please, I think you are more savvy than that. And, for that matter, *this* list is for people who actually *want* to be practical, who actually want to *make* music, not write about making music. It is not superior, it is different, and it is very valid.

>If this continues, I will quit every list where I see it occuring...

That would be a loss to the community, as the variety and number of voices are what gives it the richness. Maybe better would be to step back for a minute, and in a relaxed manner have us all examine what the [perceived] problem is. You and I work at the task of 'composing' in very different ways, and yet you and I are more alike then you and many of the others on this list, as well as how different *I* am from others on this list.

Feel free to discuss this stuff, because you should feel comfortable on a list dedicated to **making** music since you are a composer.

Cheers,
Jon

I've learned how to post to two different lists at exactly the same
time....

Forget about it, Jon, I was just temporarily "annoyed."

I just don't want to see you in the school of the "nutty professor..."

Anybody curious about this very slight altercation, it is on
the "biggie" list, but it was like a summer storm, and is over
already...

I think you're right about that, Dan... The "nutty professor" is
really the guy who's "over the line." Fortunately, the "giant" has
been asleep of late.

What's even *more* unfortunate is that I have been reading his
_Microtonality, Past, Present, Future_ and it is a _very_ valuable
read.

Wouldn't it be better if everything were just "black and white..."??

Any more on this should go back over on "Tuning Challenges" I
believe...
