MP3.com defunct

It was with great displeasure that I read that my favorite musical
site has been sold to CNET Networks, whose first action upon
acquiring MP3.com, will be the removal of the MP3 website, and it
goes downhill from there:

"Please note, however, that promptly following the removal of the
MP3.com website, all content will be deleted from our servers and all
previously submitted tapes, CD-ROMs and other media in our possession
will be destroyed. " from a message at
http://msg.mp3.com/artistforums/liststory/?

Thanks guys. I know they just want to make money....

Does anyone have a recommendation for a site that could house my
collection of a dozen songs, about 100 MB, with about a dozen
downloads a week (on a busy week)? Comcast lets me keep 25 MB, but
that's not enough. The Wall St. Journal suggests Garageband.com or
Soundclick.com, or electronicscene.com. At $50/year, MP3 fit my
requirements nicely.

I've had my mp3s at Zebox for the last year or so and like it alot- no
waiting for songs to appear. Its $25 a year to have 24 songs and 20 videos
(haven't tried that part yet).

***I've been scrambling to get my mp3s back. I had 40 of them up on
my site there! In addition, our composers group had maybe 25 or so
on another mp3 site. I mentioned this situation on "metatuning." It
is, indeed, a shame. I was with mp3.com probably for 7 years or
more, I would estimate. Toward the end probably 300 people were
visiting my site by "stumbling" into it...

***Regrettably, this doesn't seem to have *anywhere near* as nice an
interface as mp3.com had...

***Of the above, Soundclick.com seems the most similar to mp3.com...
and it's free. Another alternative might be the American Music
Center's NewMusicJukeBox, although I don't know how many people
actually travel through there...

I put some things up there, and found it rather crass, actually, and decided not to participate in it, so you can imagine I'm in no way distressed by its demise. I liked zebox when I looked at it, because it seemed unpretentious, and for god's sake, didn't you all back up your files when you posted them out there in the wild west?

In any case, one should not overlook Prent Roger's work, wherever he may find an outlet for it, and I ain't kiddin', he's got it goin' on.

And in any case, I could spell it right, which would be Mr. Prent Rodgers, who I've had the luxury of admiring probably through mp3.com, as much as I'd hate to admit it, but seriously, I think it came from other links, to people who may actually know who you are.

Cheers,

Pete

***Yes, one of the main "complaints" against mp3.com was the fact
that it kept asking for people's email addresses even if they just
wanted to *listen* to some mp3s, not even *download...*

I'm going to SoundClick at the moment:

http://www.soundclick.com/bands/5/josephpehrsonmusic.htm

But still have to post quite a bit more stuff over there.

It's mostly a matter of the time involved. Sure, I have all my
content....
