New music to listen, too.

MMM'rs,

We've got a new tune of Justin White's up at microtonal.org, entitled "Dance of the Goblins". Go to:

http://www.microtonal.org/music.html

and find it as the first entry.

Also, some little voice in my head said to check out an old source, and sure enough Mary Beth Ackerly has a new-ish composition up at her site:

http://www.elucida.com/resources/Tribal_DNA_Sounds.mp3

I *highly* suggest taking a look at her site (http://www.elucida.com/) for an amazing array of microtonal music, among much else. Longer-term members here will remember Mary for her insight, humor, and drop-dead command of intonation as well as being a consummate gear-head. A deadly combination! If you don't know her work, definitely worth a listen, and maybe the traffic will shock her back into posting every so often!

Happy listening,
Mom

***Apologies to Jon, but this took *forever* to download. Isn't
there any way to stream this stuff?? Maybe he'd do better on mp3.com
despite the commercialism, since at least the streaming is
instantaneous...

***Thanks, Jacky. I shudda thunk of that.

Well, the Blackjack piece for cello and electronics is in the works.
It's taking some time to transcribe it, and I'm using Sibelius now,
which, in the meantime, I had to learn from scratch (great program,
though). This will be using the Sims 72-tET accidentals as developed
by Ted Mook. Hopefully Mook will like the piece and will play it,
too. There are also some other cellists I am sending it to.

Mike (Catharsis) is going to help me with the sound processing of the
electronic part, if he's available when I finish with this. I find I
am changing the piece -- at least the cello part, to make the
fingering easier, etc. so it can't be recorded yet.

Then I am off for a while to *acoustic* projects, since that's what
I've been asked to do: a trio for guitar, violin and viola, a solo
guitar piece, a solo organ piece and a trio for electric guitar,
cello and percussion.

Of course, I haven't written any of these pieces yet, so I hope some
of the people don't forget about them in the meantime!

In any case, probably the acoustic pieces won't be quite as *intense*
microtonally as the blackjack pieces with electronics, which probably
are my *most* "advanced" pieces to date. Most probably I will be
doing more in the way of 72-tET intervals and sounds in the acoustic
pieces, but not working my way through a visual tuning lattice as I
was with Blackjack.

But, that will make the piece interesting to analyze, as Jon
mentioned, since I can post up a .mp3 and *also* a .pdf of the piece
and anybody interested can try to figure out how it relates to the
Blackjack lattice.

Then, the "future, future" plans involve more electronics with
Blackjack. For that, I hope to expand my MIDI stuff, but as you know
that's a "never ending..." "$$$" process.

best,

Joseph

it streamed very well for me (only one, very brief, "buffer pause").
of course i'm sitting in the office with a T1 connection. but
certainly jon's site is doing all one could reasonably hope for in
the streaming department, it seems to me.

thanks for the music, justin. the asynchronous rhythms had me tapping
my feet and moving various parts of my body in strange and new ways.
i've also enjoyed discussing tuning with you in the past and would be
more than happy to resume those discussions if you're ever so
inclined (in the appropriate place, of course).

Glad you liked it Paul. But watch that dancing, I almost injured
myself doing that. ;-)

You got it ! Been busy of late but I will drop by tuning list land
soonish. I have a new scale that is a variation on the 29 note one
we were discussing. I'll post it over there at some point in the
near future.
