Where to find good non-neo-classical microtonal music?

🔗djtrancendance <djtrancendance@...>

Some of the best I have found includes music from

Petr Parízek
Neil Haverstick (rock...in fact he was rated Guitar World's top
micro-tonal guitarist)
Marcus Satellite (dance/club done using Wilson's MOS scales)

But I seem to be having a really tough time finding more micro-tonal
music which is not of the neo-classical or ambient variety...any
suggestions of other good artists to listen to?

Not there is anything wrong with neo-classical, but it would be
great to have more micro-tonal music I could work out to, play at
parties as a DJ, show my friends who love rock music...

Google Plex (glitch)
http://cdbaby.com/cd/googleplex/

Jon Catler (rock)
http://www.freenotemusic.com/site/store/recordings.html
(All their stuff is great, but Crash Landing is their best.)

If you don't have Haverstick's _Acoustic Stick_ album,
you should get it.

I'm not sure what to call Harry Partch or Kraig Grady,
but I'm fairly certain "neoclassical" wouldn't be the
word:

Twining's Crysalid Requiem is neoclassical maybe, but
might make some fantastic samples for use on the dance
floor:

And did you hear the City of the Asleep album (rock) that
Igliashon posted here recently?

And did you hear the stuff Prent Rodgers posted recently?

I would call Easley Blackwood, Herman Miller, and
Gene Ward Smith neoclassical, so I won't like to their
stuff in this thread. Ok, I can't resist this GWS one:

Argh...more mis-conceptions?  I never even mentioned Kraig Grady as being neo-classical...I'm in the same boat as you where, from the few songs of his I've heard on anaphoria.com I can't exactly list it as under any genre.

I asked him where to buy it...love that one too...but apparently he produces the CDs by hand and hasn't responded to me "where can I buy this" message to his myspace.  Neil, if you are out there, please tell me how/where I can buy that album.

Again...these are all very good tips Carl, thank you! :-)

In fact Prent's album which he so kindly sent me is just great!

The production is sterling from using cSound.

To me much of is sound "urban" but not in a rap or R&B sense but more in a
Gershwin sense

He had some songs hosted (on soundclick?) but not all of them worked.

It is highly recommend. (Prent if you'd like me to host your CD I'd be happy
to return the favor you did by sending it to me).

From Robert. I'm not sure what non-neoclassical means but here's
a link that hasn't been mentioned so far:

http://www.deezer.com/

Insert keywords into the Search box for varied results. "partch" and
"microtonal" produce results. If you insert some of the names that
other people have mentioned then you might get results. For example,
"julian carrillo" and "alois haba" don't produce results.

Right, forgot her! Also, check out her "Bohlen Pierce scale

Whoops! I forgot Dan Stearns!

Dan, I've often struggled with your inventory of online
music sharing profiles. Is this the main one or isn't there
a "main" one?

Dear Robert Thomas,

I went to deezer.com and typed Julian Carrillo and got 2 pieces
written by Carrillo's disciples David Espejo and Armando Nava.

Just a warning for the Carrillo funs there!

Thanks for the link anyhow.
