Hi Prent,

Thinking about your message about remaining on-topic, I'd like to know
just what Micro Music others are Making.

In particular, it seems to be some time since we heard from you what
you are working on - anything you'd like to share?

Same question to anyone else who may be sitting on a trove of
undiscovered treasure. Please do make an effort to get it heard!

Regards,
Yahya

I'm sitting on something, but it is neither a trove nor a treasure... :)

Cheers,
Jon

I'm working on a proof-of-concept right now, not something I'm overly
proud of. A canon of sorts, though the answers are tonal and not real.
I want to see high-limit interaction for myself, so I'm working with a
harmonic scale from 16-32 (prime limit 31)

But you've inspired me to finish sequencing it, so you have to take
part of the blame when it's done.

Well, as for me, there is this (you may already have seen it):

/makemicromusic/topicId_11255.html#11255

Not much progress at the time, though :-(

Apart from that, I am currently trying to do something for Jacob's
17-tone piano project. It seems there's something growing, but I'm in
doubt whether I'll make it to the deadline...

How about you?

I think I can sing that one; does it go ... F A ? ;-)

Tristan,

With the greatest pleasure! Be sure to post a link so we can hear
it.

Didn't have time to follow up when you first posted. But, now,
having listened to it, I'm glad you've reminded me. :-) I like the
sounds, the dynamics, the harmonies and the rhythm changes.

I had no idea the alphorn could be so subtle -- I guess I sort of
expected long, yodelling notes with plenty of fifths and bright
folksy rhythms, which of course is just a stereotype. How silly of
me!

It will be interesting to hear where you take these ideas; at this
stage, I have no idea of the overall structure appropriate to this
piece. But the sample is promising.

I'm in exactly the same boat! :-(

> How about you?

Nothing else much cooking right now. However, I do want to spend
some time playing in some very *un*even scales of varying sizes, to
sharpen my abilities to make melodies and harmonies work in them.

Yahya

This is an interesting statement. Actually, I would say that real
alphorns can be much subtler - since the "alphorns" in my piece are,
in the end, csound instruments controlled by a quite limited set of
parameters. But I have to confess I do not really know much about real
alphorns - I can't even tell how much the instruments in my piece have
to do with them...

BTW, if you are interested, some really "subtle" stuff (both alphorn
and yodeling) can be found on

At the current stage, the piece indeed does not have a real structure
- I will have to work on that. The closest term I can think of is
"improvisation" (if this word is apppropriate for a csound score
created entirely by text editing)...

Thanks for your comment!

Yes, there are some really interesting sounds there, on the
Downloads page. Thanks for the heads up!

Seems like a suitable word, if you're just going where the spirit
leads you ...

Do let's hear what you make of this piece eventually.

Hi microtonalists!

Listen to this example: the peculiarly-named "Crap Larynx" from the
album "Melken", available from the Downloads page on the site Hans
Straub linked to recently:
http://www.stimmhorn.ch

Enjoy the tuning (intellectually) and the music (viscerally)!
