I read the article then tried playing around with the bow pressure on my
cello - quite a dangerous thing to do since my bowing technique is very,
very low level! Anyway, I was able to produce a note lower than the one I
was stopping with my finger on the fingerboard - but not with her apparent
consistency of tone and volume. I definitely could not make the
"subharmonic" appear on command.
