For those interested...Naseer Shama, a student of Munir Bashir, as a superb oud CD, "The Lute of Baghdad;" Said Chraibi is a Moroccan oud maestro who has CD's available as well; and was listening last nite to Egyptian oud great George Michel; he has only one CD as far as I can tell, "Melodies of the Oud;" deep and intricate indeed. Also got a raga CD by Indian violin master L. Shankar, "Who's to Know;" been looking for it for years, and it is pretty jaw dropping in it's virtuosity...astonishing chops. And Zakir Hussein is on tabla...they both played with McLaughlin in Shakti. Shankar's brother L. Subramaniam is also a monster violinist, got one of his CD's recently too.

And..Ali Akbar Khan was a great Indian sarod maestro, died a couple of years ago. He has a great set of CD's on his own AMMP label, one of the legendary raga masters...this is all good stuff...Hstick www.microstick.net

Thanks Neil, I'll check these out when I get some extra cash. BTW, as
for raga - can you point me out to some interesting examples in this
style that utilize exotically tuned scales?
