note to Gene for when he shows up - this piece is intentionally polyphonic
and has contrapuntal sections.

Very impressive. A meditation on recent events with emotional appeal, and Garritan PO dos the job for you.

thanks for the listen and comment!

GPO is only $149 to first time users , upgrades are $50 - and it has native
scala format support to boot - I highly recommend the sample set.

You can get a DAW for $50 - though Cakewalk has a Sonar version for $79
http://www.cakewalk.com/Products/HomeStudio/default.aspx

that can do probably all you'd want. If you can find $250 in your budget you
can have essentially what I used.

Does it render a midi file or any other form of score?

You need GPO plus a program to load it. A program like Sonar or Logic or Finale or Sibelius. And that program will give you the midi file or print a traditional score.

I ran into this in the Garritan listening room tonight

http://www.northernsounds.com/forum/showthread.php/73343-Debussy-Maid-with-the-Flaxen-Hair-%28GPO4-and-JABB3%29

A rather nice rendition of Debussy with GPO strings and Jazz and Big Band
clarinet. Lovely.

Anyone considering purchase of a Garritan product should look in this forum
- there are people who post here who know much much better how to use the
sample set.
(musically quite conservative though)

The standalone ARIA Player will render MIDI files, and lets you assign each channel to a different instrument. One drawback is that all the channels have the same tuning (which makes it harder to use tunings with much more than 12 notes per octave, since the ranges of the instruments are fixed).

Using say 31 or heaven forbid 80 something edo would be a problem. Using 17 for instance isn't a big problem as I've demonstrated.
