1. Isn't the word "scordatura" missing from this thread? Scordatura refers
to
any non-standard arrangement of the open strings, including those that do
not venture out of the prevailing tuning system. Tuning, in the spirit of
this list, refers to the precise intonation chosen.

2. The Amsterdam-based American composer and guitarist David Dramm (see, for
example: http://www.goddard.edu/wgdr/kalvos/drammda.html ) has specialized
in using non-12tet open string tunings on standard 12tet-fretted guitars.
His duo work with flautist Ann LaBerge is an especially interesting, with an
empirical,
non- or even anti-systematic approach to alternative tuning.
