Darren,

Did you set the sysex channel? The device number should not be
"off", then change it to "all".
The TG77 should be compatible with the SY77. You can find the
SY77 user manual in PDF format here:
http://www.yamaha.com/ycaservice/group008/fgrop008.htm
If the sysex codes in Scala are not correct, then you should
consult the manual and edit the synth.par file to correct them.
Good luck,

Manule Op de Coul coul@ezh.nl

It's been a few years, but I believe you find the micro-tuning function in Voice Edit Mode. If you enter
this you'll find the area where you can make Coarse/Fine settings for each key. I do remember, however, that
the fine tuning was more than one cent per increment - something like 85 steps per 12eq half step? Better
resolution than the TX series, however...

Actually, I'd like to amend that last statement. After about fifteen years of working with microtunings on
commercial synthesizers (Casios/Yamahas/Kurzweil) it's been my experience that the finest resolution
available - one cent - doesn't always guarantee the purest intervals. It _may_ guarantee the most
_flexibility_, but on machines where the resolution would be 1.xx I would quite often find less beating on
certain intervals due to the fact that the multiples of that number would often land closer to the desired
number. The music I composed on various Casios and Yamahas was very much influenced by the pure intervals I
was able to find on a particular model. When I got tired of this game and bought a K2000, I merely gave up
using commercial synthesizer settings altogether. After all, 100 cents per half step is, in fact, a form of
equal temperament - _none_ of the intervals were right!

David,

Manuel replied to me as well, and this is my reply back to him. I am trying
to send a sysex bulk tuning dump to the synth to tune the entire table at
once, but it is not working. I was able to find the voice edit/microtune
edit screens you describe, but my tuning system is complex and I do not want
to edit each note number individually!

here is my second message to manuel:
Still having trouble.

Yes, it (sysex receive channel) was already set to" all", and memory
protection is definitely off,
and I am definitely setting it up to edit one of the user definable tuning
tables.. I am using send/file and cakewalk to play the tuning midi file.
Documentation on the synth says that it can receive sysex at any time.
Should I use a sysex file type instead? How do I do that? I tried using
@send, and gsplay seems to function, but then cakewalk seems to no longer be
able to send mididata. Another sequencer I have still works in this
condition though.

When I play the midi tuning file in cake walk, the synth seems to recieve
data (the voice button flashes), but the microtuning data edit screen does
not scroll through as it would with the tx81z.

What now?!?!? Send a sysex data file? Edit synth par?

Darren
