the only problem i've encountered is the actual tuning. i have always hated tuning mandolins, and my specific playing style requires the hard plucking of the strings, thus demanding frequent retuning. But perhaps it's just the mandolin

I would think that a mandolin would be perfect for
equal temperaments less than 12tet. Those frets
could get very tightly spaced with that scale length.
