Hi friends,

Due to heavy floods and hail storms in our Var area we had severe damages of all kinds and many animals and human deaths. We are OK here in our village, but our garden is destroyed and we will have no internet at home for a while.
Thanks to not send new demos at my personal e-mail until it is restored. Use the dropbox instead if you want to share your demos. Ask Francois on this list if you need help.
Last sunday I "D-Jayed" 30 of the demos sent in an ambient festival (Ambiosonic 18-20 June Collobrieres France) and they were really well received. People even danced on some of them and it was a pleasure to hear it out in nature on big "boom-boom" speakers. It was a good sound test too and I can say that considering all was done with the package's sounds, everyone did a super fine job.

Other info is that because of technical and other problems several participants asked for extra time to finish their works.
Jerome Desigaud did not succeed on installing the software on his computer and passed his box to the percussionist Naomi O'Sullivan.
So if everyone agrees we propose a prolongation till the 18 th of July.
Special thanks for those who already fulfilled their contracts. We hope for everyone's comprehension.
We have no news from MOTU anyway about the website space that will welcome the selected demos.
So I guess until then every participant can complete his works -

Thanks for the good comments !

I will be back soon (I hope),
Take care,

Jacques

Sorry to hear about all of the troubles Jacques, glad you are safe.

I wish I was there at the party you played our music at!

I agree to the extention
- though I'm not sure I will contribute more demonstration pieces as
my muse is calling me in different directions
- especially towards my fretless guitar. I am falling in love with the
expressive flexibility it give my playing.

Dear Jacques,

I am sad to hear of your affliction in the provençal airs. There have
been strong downpours for the past few days around Istanbul also, but
fortunately without too much damage to property.

Well, I admit that this rescheduling of the deadline to late next
month was most fortunate in my case! As I have entered a period of
brief stagnation again and failed to produce the projected other two
pieces for the Ethno2 competition. This will give me the motivation I
need to proceed in peace of mind and fulfil my end of the bargain!

Thanks,
Oz.

Jacques,

I see on xenharmonic alliance you wrote the entry date ends July 23rd, yet
here you say 18th July.

Is there something I missed?

I had half a mind to add another piece.

Hi Chris,
Yes, you missed my message on this list of 2 days ago, in which I said the Jury will deliberate on thursday 22 -
in fact it will be on friday 23, 18h30.
Feel free to add another piece, like anyone who has Ethno2 - that would be a performance if you can make one demo in such a short time, but I know you can.

Since you did not get this message (below) I also sollicitated TL members to vote by sending me (privately) a list of the demos they liked, of whatever number they want, by preference order (Candidates, like yourself, can include their titles if they wish, but it won't be taken in account...). If I get enough answers to be representative, this would allow us to determine an additional "Alternate Tuning List" prize, which would be valorizing to mention on the MOTU website when we get there, and wherever else.
A quick online low-resolution survey of the demos (for those deposed) can be done from the dropbox. Some of the candidates did not upload their demos in their folders but I am doing it myself right now.

I also asked the candidates to tell us the most important of their demos for them (this won't be published, but it would possibly help us us to cite, in case, the most relevant piece(s) for each composer).

Cheers,

(updated copy of my message) :

This is to let you know my internet line has been repaired a few days ago.
I am able to read the wonderful tuning list messages again -
and hear the last Ethno demos (surprising works !) :
https://www.dropbox.com/s/9grkajrdg7uo6ds

And to share with you the totality now of my own 3 Ethno demos -
You can hear and read about them at
https://www.dropbox.com/s/ay9ktuh93lcunxo
I am glad, even if an amateur on that type of instrument, that I could finalize this test
and could gain to keep my own software !

So, Ethno2 microtonal demo competition has arrived at its end yesterday.
Again, my thanks to all the participants !
The AEH Jury will now meet for the deliberation and the award ceremony FRIDAY evening 23nd of July at 18h30, and results should be published on this list this week-end.
Until then and even after the dropbox can receive the last demos and the last versions.
Thanks to precise the tunings and write your presentation if it has not been done.

In the meantime anyone who wishes can send me - better offlist - a vote for a list of any number of titles presented by preference order (ex. with numbers 1 2 3 4 5...) and we will try to sort out of it an additionnal *Tuning List* prize.

Candidates themselves can also vote, by two special ways :
- by sending the same kind of list (their own titles won't be taken in account) ;
- by saying what is their own prefered demo(s) according to them, if they have some.

Bye for now,
- - - - - - -
Jacques
