Dear Jacques,

Please let me express my joy on seeing this wonderful
evolution of the Soria tuning, and my great happiness
to be able to complete my article on the 1/1-7/6-11/8-13/8
chord and some maqam connections by using this fuller
version of Soria that you have now shared with us!

In offering a variety of step and interval sizes in
relatively few notes, these 17/19-note tunings show
some of the same creativity as frettings for the
Persian tar. It is fun to look for versions of
Dastgah Bayat-e Esfahan either in its "Old" form
or in a Buzurg kind of interpretation specified
by Farhat's musical notation and fretting scheme
taken together. Additionally, I notice that one
of your new Soria versions approximates a tetrachord
which Tala`i may prefer for both Chahargah and
Esfahan -- another topic!

As someone who specializes in tuning systems of
this general kind with fifths somewhere in the
region between 29-ET and 17-ET, I can especially
appreciate the challenge and creativity in devising
such a versatile system. Also, you have great wisdom
in making available two versions, one more classically
balanced and the other more adventurous.

Parts of my article about Persian notation should also
be updated to reflect the possibilities of these full
versions of Soria.

My warmest congratulations on this happy development
for a project which immediately caught my attention
when I read your messages about soria.scl and soria12.scl,
eagerly anticipating the 17-note -- or, as it happens,
17-plus-2-note -- versions now an accomplished fact.

With many thanks,

Margo Schulter
