Problem in GPO 4?

I'm trying to use a Bohlen Pierce tuning in Garritan Personal Orchestra and I'm getting really funky stuff out - my melody jumps an octave-ish at some notes - I have not worked out the pattern yet.

I'm wondering if anyone else has seen this behavior.

Ok,

Here is what I'm hearing

Compare the direction of the notes in the beginning of this 1 minute solo flute piece:

http://micro.soonlabel.com/flute-compare-tunings/flute-solo-12edo.mp3

Bohlen-Pierce 12 of 13 from Scala archive

http://micro.soonlabel.com/flute-compare-tunings/flute-solo-BP12.mp3

The BP piece inexplicably jumps when it should be playing psuedo-halfsteps.

I have several comparisons here:

http://micro.soonlabel.com/flute-compare-tunings/

The 12th root of Phi is an interesting variant for me.

http://micro.soonlabel.com/flute-compare-tunings/flute-solo-12th-root-of-phi.mp3

And Petr's Golden Spectrum tuning

http://micro.soonlabel.com/flute-compare-tunings/flute-solo-petr-golden-spectrum.mp3

=> Mike S. - do you have a 12 note tuning I can throw at this piece?

I'll have these streaming in a few at www.chrisvaisvil.com

It's a different sample in both mp3's?
In any case, there's a lot more difference than just the tuning so I think
you made an error somewhere in rendering one of the files?
12edo flute sound I like better btw.

In theory I should not have to worry about samples - Garritan Personal
Orchestra should be taking care of it for me.
BUT... I agree it sounds significantly different.

Assuming the last note in the scale is 3/1, try replacing it with the equivalent in cents (1901.955). I seem to recall having similar problems with one of the scales I tried using.

ok, thanks Herman I'll try that. I was hoping for some thing like that!

Improved, but didn't cure it entirely

I noticed the rest of the pitch defining numbers were fractions also.
Perhaps GPO has a problem with fractions?

Unfortunately many synths only implement the cents part
of .scl. Even Scala doesn't have true rational numbers,
so there's a limit on the size of the fractions you can use.

ok, hmmm, I'll give that a try.

This is the first time I've noticed a problem in the actual note placement.
The collapse of the instrument range with > 12 notes / octave is annoying
enough - makes me want to give up on orchestral music sometimes.
