A short 22 edo piece with the intention to use harmonies further away from 12 tet. The two version are quite different in emotional impact to me. Both together are about 3 megs.

solo Pianoteq version

Electro version

Both are short and small in size - I'd be interested in hearing comments.

Nice! I like the repeating chromatic motif, and how it sweetens
up at the end.

Doesn't fit together for me. Percussion track sounds canned
and cheap. Sorry!

HI Carl,

Thanks for the listen and comment. The drums were compressed and distorted
on purpose.
If it would be interesting to you I could post the electronic version with
the drums au natural.

I find the electro version flows better than the plodding piano version.

Thanks,

Chris

Thanks, but I wasn't referring to any distortion, just that it
sounded like a generic, overplayed drum loop that didn't fit the
rest of the piece. Geez, I'm merciless! -Carl

Well, you are right - sort of.

4 loops were harmed. The exercise really was harmonic in nature. I wanted
to go beyond psuedo 12 tet in 22 as was done mostly in my last 22 edo piece
- adding percussion and slapping in Albino (with a few minor note changes)
was done to toss up on a 12 edo site to see what happens. Electronics often
seem to blur people's perception of pitch.

The second piece is riveting. The first, not to my liking though.

Thanks - I kind of feel the same way. It would be needed to be expanded
though.

I guess I'm in the minority! I listened a few more times to the
first, and decided I really like it. A second time to the second,
and decided I really don't. -Carl

My impression is that the first is too plodding - somehow adding a drum beat
seemed to solve that impression in the 2nd.
BUT the harmonies are much clearer in the first.

I need to develop my writing skills - or push further into live performance
of part writing like I did for the Chicago 60x60 submission. My concern
there is my timing difficulties making the final piece too "loose" - sloppy
sounding really.

Have you tried playing along with drum loops?

-Carl
