active content and HTML posts in general

Folks,

Earlier today, Chris V. apparently copied and pasted some
HTML content from the web into a post. It caused Caleb's
browser to crash, so naturally he replied to let others
know, quoting Chris' message in full! Yahoo flagged that
as spam, as well as a reply from Michael that also contained
the quoted original.

All three messages have been deleted.

I *strongly* discourage posting HTML content to the list.
Use a URL instead. Not only is it a security risk, it also
doesn't display uniformly on all e-mail readers. Plain text
remains the gold standard for readability and uniformity on
the widest range of systems.

Thanks,

-Carl

Sorry about quoting it--I didn't know what was going on, I was in a
mild panic. Thanks for explaining.

wow... I feel powerful (joke)

I'm sorry about that - I had no idea that would be the result.

Thanks Carl - I'll do that in the future

That message provoked my Apple Mail to try to connect to an external
IP adress. No amount of cancelling helped get rid of the message. I
managed to delete the message by other means in the end.

the links were just links to music files

just like what is normally posted here all the time

that pasting a table would break things I can understand

but not the links...........

There was a script in there somewhere. Just viewing the message
on Yahoo threw up dialogs about whether I wanted to visit some
other site. -C.

Which of course you could not because it was a controled account.

Again I apologize and will post something like that into notepad first.

How did you do that, I have the same problem (at least I can still send mails, but I will have to read your reply in the lists archive..)

Dear Torsten,

I respond to this list in hopes that other Mac users will find my
rescue method useful.

Command-Q from Mail. This will quit the application.
Launch Mail again.
Before it has the oppurtunity to read the corrupt e-mail, hit delete!

You must send it to trash as soon as Mail opens. To be on the safe
side, empty your mail trash.

Cordially,
Oz.
