A fresh scientific publication on maqams

Dear members,

In the link below, you shall discover a new article conjointly written
by Dr. Bozkurt, Dr. Yarman, M. Sc. Karaosmanoglu & Dr. Akkoc that has
been recently published in the Journal of New Music Research (JNMR)
Vol. 38, Nr. 1:

http://alturl.com/g6dz

The article is titled: "Weighing Diverse Theoretical Models on Turkish
Maqam Music Against Pitch Measurements: A Comparison of Peaks
Automatically Derived from Frequency Histograms with Proposed Scale
Tones".

This study features a groundbreaking research comparing, for the first
time apparently, diverse tunings with actual measurements of maqam
samples from renowned performers. The results seem to favour
"Yarman-24" modes and "Mus2okur"s choice of 53-tET modes above all the
other theoretical models in our test.

A full PDF version (for your eyes only) may be reached in the Academic
Studies section of my own webpage.

Cordially,
Dr. Oz.

Oz- Congrats on publication, and thanks for providing a PDF.
It looks much more extensive than the last I have from
Akkoc et al on this approach... exciting! Hopefully I'll have
time to dig into it tomorrow.

-Carl

Dear Carl,

I hope you enjoy the article! It took us quite some time to compose it.

Oz.

Thanks for sharing this Oz!

A bit of information here to digest. Being a chemist (by day when employed)
I am used to seeing documents like this when doing research - interesting
to see one like this for music!
