How did it go - how was the general reaction? I mean just on looks
alone, they're so damn striking that I couldn't imagine people not
being really curious... though I suppose some guitarist might be weary
of jumping right on to an instrument that they're supposed to know how
to play but that now has a pretty dense and foreign interface
(fretting)... though I know if I were in my 'never heard of a
microtone days,' I'd still be dying to try one out and know a bit more
about it.

General reaction was shock.
People wanted an explanation of the fretting.
People wanted to play the 62 tone and the fretless but
these models were for display & demo only. That's when we'd
start showing the 12 plus model (10 extra frets).
I think the fretless model went over the best. Reeves Gabrels
from the David Boiwe group want's one. Fretless guitarists
Ned Evett and Randy Roos also raved about the fretless.

And of course there a few skeptics who didn't think
the concept was practical or that the guitars were playable.

I honestly can't imagine any scenario in which these guitars
*wouldn't* catch on... Guitar just seems to be in such a lull, or down
time, that I would think anything this "new" and cool would be gobbled
up... but what the hell do I know (NOT MUCH!).

I would think so too! The main doubt seemed to be how
practical close frets are. Jon showed me a technique
to make fretting those close frets easier. And some folks
didn't think the fretless guitar was practical.

I really want a fretless guiar now....

(Just a fretless side note here) I just noticed that David Fiuczynski
is playing a double neck with a fretless up top, and a standard 12e
fretted below on his new CD "JazzPunk" (which is a cool collection of
reworked covers and semi-standards).

He stopped by the booth too. He played on one cut
off of Birdhouse bassist Hansford Rowes new cd No Other.
